Black and white photograph of a family of six at Drew McWilliams Photography, Northern IrelandFamily photography by Drew McWilliamsNatural family photography in Northern Ireland Many people say to me, "I like natural photographs. Can you do me looking natural?"

To which I normally reply, “Sure! Just stand over there and look natural!”

And of course, they can’t - none of us can.

A lot of people find it hard to smile in front of a camera. Me included.

So after I have posed you, I’ll talk to you. Ask you questions. Show you my repertoire of funny faces and exhaust my library of corny jokes.

You will smile - naturally!

And don’t forget that we’ll have met for about 20 minutes the week before to talk about how we’re going to work, what you want as a result of the session, and what clothes you’re going to wear.

When my son was 2, we had a vacation planned for Europe, and he needed a passport. The authorities were being very stern about him not smiling in his passport photograph. With a 2 year old, stick a camera in front of him, and he WILL smile. Took us about three weeks before we got an acceptable photo!
