A Breakfast at Tiffany's?

Audrey Hepburn was an inspiration to many.

Beyond her pretty face and acting career, she was also a humanitarian and a genuinely great person who had a lot of good advice to give.

She is humanitarian in her approach to life and most would agree that she's a genuinely great person.

She also has a lot of advice to give - and boy, do I know it! We don't use Google in our house.

To celebrate her recent birthday, my wife held a "Breakfast at Tiffany's"style tea party. Her guests arrived in their black and white frocks, hats, tiaras and dark glasses. When I ventured out on to the decking where they were all sitting, it was like I'd somehow been transported back in time to a mafia funeral.

The scene was like something from "Robin and the Seven Hoods" and only lacked an appearance from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior!

It was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves enormously including Breakfast at Tiffany games and quizzes, and a screening of the film with Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard.

A couple of interesting facts:
1. Truman Capote, who wrote the book that the film was based on, originally wanted Marilyn Monroe to play the part of Holly Golightly.
2. Blake Edwards, the movie's director, didn't want Peppard for the role of Paul Varjack. Steve McQueen was considered but was unavailable.

.... when you smile the world is brighter
You touch my hand and I'm a king
Your kiss to me is worth a fortune
Your love for me is everything
I'll guess I'll never know the reason why
You love me like you do
That's the wonder
The wonder of you               (Composer: Baker Knight)

Happy birthday, dear x
