For the love of mum
I don't normally photograph outside of the studio but when I heard what these sisters had planned for their mother, it just "melted my heart" and we set about planning everything.
The sisters first contacted me way back in September and we met to discuss their mother's birthday present - for the following January! I was reluctant at first but, boy, am I glad I didn't turn them away!
They explained that their mother's birthday was in January and they wanted a photograph of her grandchildren, in her own garden (of which she is very proud). The photograph would have to be done while the garden basked in autumn colour, and it would have to be done without the mother's knowledge!
I was so impressed by how excited they were, the thought they'd put into the project, and the time they'd spent planning it all - not to mention their very obvious love for their mother. How could I refuse?
The girls arranged for their mother to be away and we photographed towards the end of October. We met, after school and the grandchildren ran around like crazy - with me following, not quite as fast! We were lucky with the weather, rain only appearing slightly towards the end of a very memorable hour.
Their chosen image was ready to be printed, framed and stored until the birthday in January.
I couldn't help being excited about their mum's reaction when she was presented with the wall art - the gradual realisation that this was her grandchildren - and, wait a minute, that's my house and garden! How on earth did you manage that?
And the result? See for yourself below.
